Farrukh Habib Briefs Members On PDMA Framework

State Minister for Information And Broadcasting Farrukh Habib briefed the Sub-Committee Of National Assembly's Standing Committee On Information And Broadcasting regarding the Media Development Authority Framework.

Habib told the meeting that the PBA, APNS, CPNE and PFUJ among five major press clubs and all stakeholders have been consulted on the PMDA framework.

He said that PEMRA, ABC, Press Registrar, Press Council, Motion Pictures and other concerned bodies are being brought under the umbrella of PMDA.

He said that in the Media Complaint Commission, the applications filed by journalists and media workers associated with electronic, print and digital media would be decided within 21 days.

Habib said that the decision of media complaint commission can be challenged at the media tribunal which will also decide the case in 21 days. The commission's decision can be challenged in the Supreme Court.

He said that the Pakistan media development authority would never influence the media complaint commission in any manner.

The Minister said that neither there is any draft of the PMDA nor any ordinance is being promulgated.

Farrukh Habib regretted that Chairperson of the Sub-Committee Mariyum Aurangzeb rejected the PMDA as black law and set up a protest camp.

He said it would have been better, had the Chairperson remained impartial and presented her opinion at this forum.
