Olympic Opener: Strikes From Lacazette And Olise See France Win Over US

Hosts France made a good start to the Olympic Football Tournament in Marseille as two goals in eight minutes after the hour mark and a late header from Loic Bade gave them a comfortable 3-0 win over the United States.

Captain Alexandre Lacazette sent a big crowd wild with a superb long-range effort to open the scoring before a fine strike from Michael Olise doubled the lead for Thierry Henry's side.

Elsewhere, Japan demolished a 10-man Paraguay 5-0 and Iraq came back to beat Ukraine 2-1.

In the rugby sevens meanwhile, Antoine Dupont scored a brilliant individual try as France kept alive their medal hopes despite a stuttering start to the rugby sevens tournament in front of a passionate home crowd at the Stade De France.

Reigning Champions Fiji, Australia, Argentina, New Zealand and Ireland secured spots in the quarter-finals with two wins out of two at the Stade De France but the hosts will have to wait until Thursday to see if they can make the last eight.
