Govt Taking Priority Measures For Journalists' Protection: PM
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said the Government has taken priority measures for protection of journalists and their rights.
In a message on International Day To End Impunity For Crimes Against Journalists, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said journalists who speak the truth face threats such as restrictions, violence, kidnapping and murder.
He said media persons worldwide, including Pakistan, work tirelessly to keep the world informed.
The Prime Minister said freedom of press is not possible without protection of journalists.
He said Pakistani journalists have made great sacrifices for Democracy, Constitutional Supremacy and Rule Of Law.
He said Protection Of Journalists And Media Workers Act 2021 was passed to ensure protection of journalists.
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s Constitution ensures freedom of expression, freedom of press and access to information.
He said despite international conventions, dozens of journalists were deliberately killed in Gaza.
He said the United Nations as well as international organizations should bring Israel to justice for the massacre of journalists.
