Billion Tree Afforestation Project: Germany To Provide 20 Mln Euros For Second Phase

Pakistan and Germany are committed to starting the second phase of the Billion Tree Afforestation Support Project.

Germany will provide 20 million euros for the second phase of the project.

An agreement in this regard was signed after approval of Federal Minister For Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema.

Secretary Ministry Of Economic Affairs Dr. Kazim Niaz And Director Of The German Development Bank KFW Esther Gravenkotter signed the agreement on behalf of their respective Governments.

The project is an important part of the German-Pakistan Climate And Energy Initiative launched at COP26.

With the signing of this agreement, German Ministry Of Economic Cooperation & Development's (BMZ) funding through KFW for this programme has reached 33.5 million euros.

The project will support nature-based livelihood generation geared to alleviate poverty.

Besides, it will promote women’s economic empowerment and participation in decision making processes.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Niaz said that the project is expected to contribute significantly to Pakistan’s climate change mitigation efforts, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development goals.
